Standby generators in a mountain town

Standby generators require flat, stable surfaces to run smoothly, but that’s not always easy to find on some properties. We love living in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but that means we run into plenty of steep yards and rocky terrain.

We had a challenging project recently on this sloped property near Pandapas Pond and the Poverty Creek trail system. We graded and leveled a small area downhill from the main house, before installing a composite cement pad and finally the 26kW Generac generator. The automatic transfer switch (ATS) was installed on an exterior stone wall adjacent to the electrical meter, and we trenched and ran conduit between the two.

The generator was purposefully tucked behind some architectural boulders and will be obscured by the garden as it grows in, allowing the natural world to take center stage.

Whole-house generators require a great deal of thoughtful planning and coordination before we ever start digging on site. Let us take care of the details so you can get back to enjoying your fall! 🍂 But don't wait too long— the average first freeze is less than two weeks away, and winter storms will be following close behind.
