We stayed busy this week replacing 87 old post light heads throughout the Edge apartment complex in Blacksburg. These 15-foot poles were spread throughout the campus of this residential apartment complex.

The old lantern-style heads weighed 36 pounds each and were oversized to accommodate heavy magnetic ballasts and 500-watt metal halide bulbs. When this complex was built in 2014, LED fixtures were much bulkier and more expensive. Ballasts and metal halides were still the norm for commercial construction!

We installed new LED heads that are just 12 pounds each with a much slimmer, modern design. The driver and integrated LEDs are all built into the top of the fixture.

Incredibly, these two fixtures have the same lumen output but the new LEDs are 70% more energy efficient. This upgrade will save at least $1,500 per year on electricity costs!
